The Griffiss Institute (GI) is a nonprofit talent and technology accelerator for the United States Department of Defense and an international network of academic, government and industry partners. Since 2002, the GI has served the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate (AFRL), the Mohawk Valley region, and the United States, empowering diverse teams with talent and technology development programs that lead the nation in technical and economic impact. Devoted to converging teams and technologies to solve complex national challenges, the GI is proud to enable its international network from its home at Innovare Advancement Center in New York’s picturesque Mohawk Valley.

Matthew Mroz

Executive Vice President

As Executive Vice President of the Griffiss Institute, Matthew drives corporate strategy and expands national efforts in STEM talent and technology acceleration. With over 16 years of experience in technology transfer, commercialization, venture development, and public-private partnerships, he brings an entrepreneurial mindset to nonprofit leadership. Previously, as Vice President at The Research Foundation for SUNY, he led transformative initiatives that significantly advanced SUNY’s innovation and commercialization efforts, including growing its startup portfolio to over 200 companies and managing a $3M proof-of-concept fund that generated over $20M in returns. He has secured and managed major federal grants to support early-stage technologies and startups. Matthew serves on several biotechnology boards and is active in national professional organizations. He holds degrees from Stony Brook University, Albany Law School, and the University at Albany.
